How about LED lights for a secure, reliable, high-speed communication networks?

Here is a collective information about pureLiFi, a mobile wireless technology that uses light rather than radio frequencies such as Wi-Fi or cellular to transmit data. LiFi, meaning Light Fidelity, can transmit at multiple gigabits, is more reliable, virtually interference free. LiFi enables device converts the beam of light into an electrical signal.

According to Scotland Org, the Co-founder and CSO Professor Harald Haas explained what is LiFi and how it works. Here I captured some lines: “LiFi is high speed bi-directional networked and mobile communication of data using light. The applications for LiFi are limitless, anywhere when there is an LED light, there can be data. LiFi uses the light spectrum and this has unlimited potential, and its faster. The LED lights in your office and home can be networked into existing communications infrastructure, and the seamless transition we already expect between 4G and Wi-Fi will extend to LiFi. Some devices equipped to receive LiFi data are now available, as is the network infrastructure to convert existing LED lights into an internet network. Soon mobile devices, laptops, tablets and even kettles and toasters could be built with embedded LiFi receivers.”

“LED bulbs are semiconductor devices, which means the current, and therefore the illumination can be modulated at extremely high speeds which can be detected by the photo-detector. Using this technique allows for high-speed information can be transmitted from an LED light, enables secure wireless communications, provides high speed, dense and reliable networks ” continued Professor Harald Haas from University of Edinburg.

pureLiFi also have their own Light Antenna Evaluation Kits (EVK) which is suited to manufacturers of lighting, mobile devices and connected “things”. The pureLiFi team offers two variations of our EVK for exploring the use of LiFi components. Each kit comes with documentation and an option for support from their team of experts.

LiFi is wireless technology to overcome the challenges of RF:
Higher speed and bandwidth: LiFi can deliver multiple Gbps speeds in mobile devices and open up unprecedented bandwidth.
Provide maximum security: LiFi enables additional control as LiFi offers precise localisation for asset tracking and user authentication.
Greater quality of connection: LiFi provides enhanced reliability enabling interference-free communications and 1000 times the data density.

Getac, the third-largest computing group in Taiwan, has become world’s first manufacturer to bring integrated LiFi technology to rugged mobile computing market. The first Getac device to offer integrated LiFi capability will be the recently launched UX10 fully rugged tablet.

The global reach of pureLiFi demonstrates the lasting and real impact embracing and encouraging new technologies can have in creating new jobs and helping the world’s economy grow.

“We see LiFi in every light and every device, connecting everything and everyone,” – pureLiFi, a light communication company that was founded by Prof. Harald Haas and Dr Mostafa Afgani in 2012 as a spin out of the University of Edinburgh to create OEM components, including LiFi drivers and receivers.
