The musician and fashion designer, Kanye West/Ye has demonstrated a long-time interest in architecture.
In 2013, Ye visited the Harvard Graduate School of Design in Massachusetts, ahead of his concert in Boston later in the night. He articulated sentiments like “I really do believe that the world can be saved through design, and everything needs to actually be architected.”
In 2018, he had tweeted that he was starting a Yeezy architecture arm called Yeezy home. In his tweet he was looking for architects and industrial designers who want to make the world better.
In 2019, Ye was reportedly had been constructing the Star Wars’ planet Tatooine-themed ‘low income’ housing units near his Calabasas home.
The designer Jalil Peraza, who worked with West in the past, posted now-removed images on Instagram depicting a “low-income housing scheme, made of prefabricated concrete in collaboration with Petra Kustrin, Jalil Peraza, Kanye West, Nejc Skufca.”
But Ye’s neighbors and the Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Works were not impressed by the constructions. West’s team was ordered to tear down the dome prototypes as they had neglected to obtain the correct permits.
Before September 15, 2019, Yeezy Home got to secure the proper building permits, or the 50-foot-high huts must be torn down. And the West’s team torn them down.
In late November 2019, it was confirmed by his wife Kim Kardashian, that Kanye West was still developing YEEZY home design for low-income housing. He’s unstoppable.
On early July 2020, Kanye West tweeted about the progress of his new YZY SHLTRS:…
