Time has passed since the charging of plastic shopping bags on July 1st, in Japan.
And the rate of declining plastic shopping bags in Lawson, a leading convenience store chain active in reducing plastic waste – is available and has reached 76%. So, Lawson has made collaboration with nendo, a Japanese design studio by Oki Sato based in Milan and Tokyo, to design and produce eco bags.
As result, one of them is a tube-shaped reusable bag – “Roll-Up Eco Bag” – designed to be as compact and easy-to-access as possible for daily grocery shopping. The cloth bag of the “Roll-Up Eco Bag” was stored in a tube case then the bag can be pulled out at once by pulling the ring with one finger.
After the bag is pulled out, the case changes its role as a “grip” of the bag that does not bite into the fingers, being more user-friendly than other typical cloth bags. The bottom is large enough to hold a convenience store bento lunch placed flat, and the side of the bag is designed with a wide opening so that large bottles can be easily taken in and out.
After use, the bag can be quickly stored back into place by pushing the dial on the side of the case.
The bag is compact and easy-to-access, we can carry it in another bag or just in our pocket. The bag was designed with hopes to be used as long as possible, being washable if detached from the case, with replaceable parts available in case of damages.
The case and the shape of the bag are carefully designed. When the bag ir rolled up, it creates an exhaust to release the air inside that prevents twists and tangles during the winding process. As a result, a bag that can be quickly taken out and easily stored while standing or walking without the hassle of unfolding/folding process.
The pocket sized “Roll-Up Eco Bag” or Winding Eco Bag is already available in Lawson of Kanto in Koshinetsu area, Japan – from Tuesday, August 4 – costs about 850 yen – the same price with the other reusable bag, “Two Layer Eco Bag“, a normal typical grocery bag. All available in three colours.
